PALS

PALS

Play and Learn Supported (PALS) Playgroups is an inclusive model designed to bring families together, whatever their abilities, for shared play, learning, and community connection.

Who PALS is for

  • Families with children from birth to school age
  • Children with disability and additional needs (five places reserved per group).
  • Families without disability (five places reserved per group).

What to expect

Each PALS group is facilitated by a trained PALS Program Facilitator. Families:

  • Build connections during the first 2–3 weeks.
  • Co-design the program by deciding which cultural, sporting, arts, or recreation activities they want to explore.
  • Participate in sessions co-facilitated with community organisations such as dance schools, gyms, yoga studios, or art groups.

This model gives children with disability the chance to try different activities in a safe and supportive environment, while building confidence to transition into mainstream community settings.

Benefits

  • Children develop social skills, confidence, and early learning foundations.
  • Parents and caregivers connect with other families and reduce isolation.
  • CASR organisations gain practical experience in inclusive practices.
  • Communities become more welcoming and understanding of disability.

Acknowledgement of country.

Playgroup SA acknowledges and respects the traditional custodians of the South Australian regions upon whose ancestral lands our Playgroups operate on.

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Elders, past, present and future for they  old the memories, the traditions, the culture and the hopes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

We also pay respect to the cultural authority of Aboriginal people from other areas of South Australia and Australia and acknowledge their deep feelings of attachment and Spiritual relationship to Country.

Playgroup SA recognises the pain and suffering caused by past policies to Aboriginal Australians and the impact this has had on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people today.

At Playgroup SA we are committed to a future of reconciliation, we believe that there is much knowledge and wisdom to be gained by Aboriginal Australians, by the learning of Country, land, cultures, truths and realities.
